Founded in 1996, Virage Logic Corporation rapidly established itself as a technology and market leader in providing advanced embedded memory intellectual property (IP) for the design of complex integrated circuits. The company's Silicon Aware IP(TM) offering (embedded memories, logic libraries and I/Os) includes silicon behavior knowledge for increased predictability and manufacturability. With the acquisition of Impinj Incorporated's logic non-volatile memory (NVM) IP business in June 2008, the company extended its embedded memory leadership position into the rapidly growing NVM market and through its acquisition of Ingot Systems in 2007, the company expanded its product offering to include Application Specific IP (ASIP) solutions such as Double Data Rate (DDR) Memory Controllers and design services. The highly differentiated product portfolio provides higher performance, lower power, higher density and optimal yield to foundries, integrated device manufacturers (IDMs) and fabless customers. The company uses its FirstPass-Silicon(TM) Characterization Lab for certain products to help ensure high quality, reliable IP across a wide range of foundries and process technologies. Gartner* forecasts the semiconductor IP market will grow to $2.7 billion by 2010. The proliferation of wireless and consumer products along with the development of higher speed computers and more robust visual communication systems are driving the demand for electronic devices that offer lower power consumption and higher performance in order to achieve lower system operating power and higher processing throughput. In order to meet intense time-to-volume pressures, an increasing number of today's System-on-Chip (SoC) designers are choosing to focus on their core competencies and are turning to third-party IP suppliers such as Virage Logic for pre-designed, production-tested IP.
